CIMPle Physics

This poem (rap) is an overview of how my theory of learning conveys to teaching Physics. But I oversimplify a bit in saying so.

CIMP” is an acronym for Cognitive Instruction in Modeling Physics.


Position and time
Coordinated mentally

Empirically familiar
Physical regularity

Laws, and axioms 
Overwhelming me concept-ually

Consistent and meaningful
Simply irresistible

The C to the I, 
And the M to the P

Cognitive Instruction 
In modeling the Physics 

Simple Words, and symbols
Representin’ and referrin’to

Connections not the thing
Keep it real ontologically

Is it Physics or fantasy?
Mathematical reality?

Number or quantity?
I tell you what it ought-uh be

A change in this
And a change in that

Undoubtedly related
And that’s a fact!

The M to the O,
And the D-E-L

Relative to what
Is the story we tell

A symbol and a referent

A logical connection

Mentally projected 
Experimentally it’s tested
